After successfully taking over the traditional but aging cognac house Pierre Ferrand in 1989, Alexander Gabriel launched the gin brand Citadelle in 1996 and the rum brand Plantation just one year later. But how does a cognac producer get his hands on rum? Alexander Gabriel decides to sell his highly sought-after barrels to producers who ask him for them. Requests for used cognac barrels for aging rum keep coming in, especially from the Caribbean and Latin America. His interest is piqued. So he travels to the Caribbean to see for himself exactly what happens to these barrels, and he remains overwhelmed and fascinated by the versatility and range this spirit offers. So he decided to turn the tables and from then on bought the barrels filled with rum from the producers, which he then had shipped to France. He then took them under his wing, deciding which cognac barrels he would let them mature in and for how long. He continued to professionalize and improve this concept, and in 2012 he was named Rum Blender of the Year at the Golden Rum Barrels Awards. Today, Plantation Rum offers four different lines, all of which are of outstanding quality and cover a spectrum to satisfy both bartenders and rum aficionados. These are: Bar Classics; Signature Blends; Vintage Grand Terroir; Single Cask
