For almost a hundred years, the Cecchini family has been living the wine tradition to the fullest. Located in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, Orsaria is a rural village surrounded by alluvial hills. The name Orsaria is believed to derive from the bears that once lived in the area's forests. Today, the wooded slopes have been cleared to make way for large areas of vineyards.
In 2005, Marco Cecchini founded a negociant operation, purchasing grapes from carefully selected local smallholders and vinifying them in his modern winery. Here, his family releases the D'Orsaria wines from the winery in Orsaria, near Premariacco.
Although the Colli Orientali in Slovenia are protected from the harsh northern winds by the Julian Alps, it is a cool region with a continental climate. The d'Orsaria winery works with native grape varieties, but also incorporates international grapes such as Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, and Cabernet Franc.
