Japanese organic green tea
Our fine green tea comes from the Shizuoka Prefecture on the main island of Honshu. This region is known as the center of the Japanese tea trade. The special soil composition, coupled with a unique climate, characterizes this region and allows the plants to thrive. The result is a mild yet highly aromatic cup, sustained by a delicate sweetness.
Sencha is a green tea characterized by its distinctive and fresh flavor and very uniform, emerald-colored leaves. Typical of Japanese green teas is that they are pre-dried with hot air and then usually briefly treated with hot steam to interrupt the fermentation process.
Over three-quarters of the tea grown in Japanese tea gardens is Sencha. Most regions produce different varieties, each named after its processing. There are several different cultivation methods for green tea in Japan. Sencha comes from open fields (called "roten en") exposed to full sunlight. This distinguishes it from other varieties, such as Gyokuro, which grow in reduced sunlight (called "oiishita en").
